All the Best to Dr. Hiekkaranta in Retirement!

We would like to formally announce the retirement of Dr. Pia Hiekkaranta from South Salem Animal Hospital as of June 14th, 2025!

At just eight years old, Dr. Pia already knew her calling – she was going to be a veterinarian. After graduating from the University of Helsinki Veterinary School, she spent over twenty years as a Municipal Veterinarian in Finland.

When she moved to the United States in 1997, Dr. Pia shifted her focus to small animals and exotic pets, bringing the same enthusiasm that had driven her since childhood. Her love for veterinary medicine has kept her actively engaged in continuing education and conferences throughout her career.

Pia has been a valued member of our team for 13 years, contributing greatly to caring for animals' needs. Her dedication, professionalism, and positive attitude have left a lasting impression on colleagues and clients alike. Today, she enjoys a quieter life in Goldens Bridge, NY, with her husband and their beloved companions, dog 'Tuisku' and cat 'Blue'.

While we are sad to see her go, we are also incredibly happy for Pia as she begins this exciting new chapter. She has certainly earned the time to enjoy family and hobbies, and a well-deserved rest.

Please join us in extending our heartfelt thanks and best wishes to Dr. Pia Hiekkaranta for a happy and fulfilling retirement.
